Lancashire Live reported in December that The Highway code is about to change and motorists are urged to educate themselves.

In relation to vulnerable road users. These are usually considered to be pedestrians, cyclist, horse riders, and users of mobility scooters. The main focus being on pedestrians and cyclists. The proposals include a requirement that motorists will have to give way to pedestrians waiting to cross at junctions. Cyclists should ride in the centre of the lane on quiet roads. Motorists should give way to cyclists at junctions. There will be guidance on safe passing distances for both cyclists and horse riders. Pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders will be given a better hierarchy on the road.

All road users need to be aware of each other. When conflict and collisions occur the most vulnerable usually come off worse. Injuries are not only inconvenient but can be devasting and life changing in some cases.
